Herman Gulch Trail and Lake - August 2020 - (Peter Only)
Amazing hike. Only about an hour west of Denver so not to far away and it was right off I-70 so super easy to get to. I will say to get there early as the parking lot can fill up fast. I got there at 6:15 and there were plenty of spots but by the time I got back the parking lot was packed. This was probably one of the hardest hikes I have done...granted I just moved to Colorado and still getting used to the altitude so I may look back on this and laugh at some point. But...it was very steep from about elevation 10,000 - 12,000 so make sure to take your time and bring lots of water. It is a great feeling when you get to Herman Lake though. I had some breakfast and some hot chocolate, good times! The hike was a 7.5 mile round trip with being up hill the entire way and of course downhill all the way back. The way back isn't really a breeze since it is steep at parts so you still have to go pretty slow. Overall a great hike and I would do it again.
